Can You Hold A Plank As Long As 71-Year-Old Cher?

Leave it to Cher to look absolutely amazing in a see-through bodysuit at 71 years old. The essentially ageless singer performed two of her biggest hits, “Believe” and “Turn Back Time,” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, rocking super-revealing outfits like the #legend she is.

The singer followed up her performance with an acceptance speech for the Billboard Icon Award. She told the crowd, “I’m 71 yesterday… And I can do a five-minute plank, okay? Just saying.” Damn, we’re impressed! She kept the rest of her speech humble, saying of her success, “I think it was mostly luck, and a little bit of something thrown in.”

What that may be true, there was a lot of working out involved as well! Cher has always been vocal about her devotion to health and fitness, and even released a few workout videos in the ’90s (you can still buy them…if you have a VHS). In 2010, she spoke with E! Online about getting older, saying, “You have to work twice as hard. You have to be in the gym all the time.”

This is the right way to do a plank.

But her workouts aren’t only limited to the gym: She also said she’s learning how to surf (!) and loves playing Wii tennis. Beyond that, Cher told Hello! Magazine that she avoids meat, rarely drinks, and works out five days per week with a trainer who doesn’t let her “play the age card.”

Back in 1991, the icon penned a book about her health and fitness routine, called Cher Forever Fit: The Lifetime Plan for Health, Fitness, and Beauty, sharing details of her low-fat diet (that also included M&Ms and Goldfish). She wrote that it’s no mystery why she’s so fit: “I’ve killed myself in the gym to have this body. It isn’t like I have some amazing secret that nobody else has.”

Still, we can only hope our bodies are anywhere near Cher’s level when we’re 71!
