Shots, shots, shots!

Shots, shots, shots!

By admin 0

If you’re thinking we’re about to send you down to your local for a tequila shooter, think again, because we have better plans for you. Instead, we’re sending you to our favourite kind of bar… the juice bar.

These heavenly health shots are ones we encourage you to take as often as you can, and won’t leave you in a foggy haze, but rather in a state of clarity and vitality… no chasers required. For a quick hit of health in the morning, these shots are exactly what you need to get your hands on! No matter what you’re feeling, hit your next morning with our best shots!

Green shot
What’s in it: 30ml water, 1/4 teaspoon spirulina, peppermint extract.
Let’s make it: Combine all ingredients in a shot glass and mix well with a spoon.
Why we love it: Spirulina is a superfood algae that some would call nature’s multivitamin. It has vitamins A, C, E, B12, B6, magnesium and even a little iron. It’s goodness is thanks to its cyanobacteria, the bluey green colour which is full of antioxidants. If you’re like us, and find the pond taste of algae a little overwhelming, rest easy, the peppermint will save you.

Lycopene shot
What’s in it: 2 ripe tomatoes, 1/4 one celery stalk, pinch salt, 1/8 onion and a drop of tabasco sauce.
Let’s make it: Juice the tomatoes, onion and celery in a juicer, then add all other ingredients and mix well. Add more salt to taste if necessary.
Why we love it: This one’s for the guys as well as the girls. Tomatoes are not only rich in antioxidants (which we love for our skin) but they’re full of all sorts of other abundant benefits that have positive effects against the development of diseases like prostate cancer.

Balance shot
What’s in it: 1/2 orange, 1/2 teaspoon chia seeds, 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric and 1/4 teaspoon honey.
Let’s make it: Juice the orange half (you can do this by hand) then add all the remaining ingredients. Let the chia seeds gelatinise for ten minutes before consuming.
Why we love it: We all want our immune system to be strong balanced right throughout the year, so this shot comes in handy to take on the regular. The orange is full of flu fighting vitamin C while the turmeric has the abundant anti-inflammatory benefits. The chia seeds also give you your hit of omega 3 as well as flushing out your system of any toxins.

Energy shot
What’s in it: 30ml cold pressed coffee, 1/4 teaspoon of maple syrup, 1/4 teaspoon of raw cacao powder and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Let’s make it: Combine all ingredients in a shot glass and mix well with a spoon.
Why we love it: If you want a natural hit of energy, you can’t go past cold brew coffee! It’s less acidic in the body due to the extraction process than regular processed coffee and tastes great. The added sugar gives you a slow released energy and cayenne pepper increases circulation and blood flow to the brain to help you feel alert and energised.

Beauty shot
What’s in it: 1/4 cup of mixed berries, 1/4 apple, small knob of cucumber.
Let’s make it: Blend all ingredients together in a blender with a dash of water and then put through a sieve and drain juice. Pour into shot glass.
Why we love it: Berries are the ultimate active girls sweet treat! They are loaded with antioxidants to help beat free radicals that cause ageing and apple and cucumber are super hydrating for smooth and supple skin.
